The flag of the United Kingdom is the Union Flag or the "Union Jack," also referred to as the British Flag. The flag is used as the national flag of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The flag in its current state takes parts of the Scottish Flag, Northern Ireland Flag and England's flag. Some have suggested it does not properly represent all of the members of the union and it is possible a redesign could be implemented with this in mind. In 2003, a private campaign was started by Nigel Turner who claimed the flag to be racial and wished to add black stripes to the Union Jack. The issue is not so simple as the Union Jack technically isn't the flag of the country, but of the monarchy and has become associated with the United Kingdom only through common usage. Therefore it is stated that to change the flag, all one would have to do is to create a version of the flag that can become more popular than the current version.
Note: This would not change the actual flag itself but create a new one.
